Beyonce Working With Kanye West Producer S1

'Power' producer tweets he's 'finishing up some monsters' after week in the studio with B.By James Montgomery

Beyoncé's already taken inspiration from the likes of Michael Jackson and Lauryn Hill, hit the studio with a list of producers that includes Ne-Yo, Sean Garrett and Jim Jonsin, and now, she's hoping to capture the surge of Kanye West's "Power."
B — who's already hard at work on the follow-up to her massive I Am ... Sasha Fierce album — just wrapped a week in the studio with producer S1, the man who co-produced "Power" and has logged time with the likes of Ghostface Killah and Erykah Badu.
S1 broke the news via his Twitter account and also posted a photo of himself and B over on his official site. And from the sound of things, the sessions, which took place in New York City, were definitely eventful.
"A couple of meetings then back in the lab with Beyonce today," he wrote in one tweet. "Excited to see what we're gonna create today after last night's session.
"Not going to bed anytime soon. Beyonce got us in here working and I'm loving every bit of it," he wrote in another post. "Finishing up some monsters ... everything is sounding really great and big!"
There's still not much information about Beyoncé's new album, though in an interview with "Entertainment Tonight" last year, she said that, this time out, she's aiming to "make [her] own genre of music." In a follow-up interview with MTV News, she clarified that statement, explaining that she's "mixing every type of genre that I love" on the new album, and added, "I'm not in a box. It's not R&B. It's not typically pop. It's not rock. It's just everything I love all mixed together in my own little gumbo of music."
What do you think S1's work with Beyoncé will sound like? Tell us in the comments!

Michael Jackson Wrongful Death Suit Vs. AEG Can Proceed, Judge Rules

Katherine Jackson and family are pursuing a claim against concert promoter.By Gil Kaufman

Michael Jackson

When he was alive, Michael Jackson was forever embroiled in a series of complex and expensive-sounding lawsuits. But even in death, the late King of Pop is the subject of major legal action. None could potentially be bigger than the wrongful death lawsuit filed by the pop icon's mother, Katherine Jackson, against concert promotion giant AEG Live.
Reuters reported that a Los Angeles judge ruled on Wednesday that the civil lawsuit can go forward. It will proceed in parallel with the criminal case against Jackson's physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, who has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with Jackson's June 2009 death from an overdose of the powerful surgical anesthetic propofol. Murray is the only person charged in Jackson's death and he is currently awaiting trial in that matter.
Katherine Jackson's lawsuit — filed in September on behalf of her and Jackson's three young children — accuses AEG of being responsible for the medical decisions made by Murray, whose salary was paid by the touring company behind Jackson's attempted "This Is It" comeback shows in London. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Yvette Palazuelos denied a motion on Wednesday by AEG to dismiss Katherine Jackson's suit, but warned Jackson's attorneys that they would need to show evidence of "fraud, negligent infliction of emotional distress and civil conspiracy" in order to win the case.
The judge has already said she doubts they can prove the latter charge, because the suit does not detail any agreement between Murray and AEG to break the law in providing medical care to Jackson.
"If the object was to get him to rehearsals, I don't see that as a wrongful or illegal act," the judge said. A lawyer for AEG told the judge that the company could not have predicted beforehand that Murray's medical decisions would result in Jackson's death. Court papers also show that AEG "did not choose to hire Murray" and had only participated in negotiations to bring him on as an independent contractor. Michael, who had previously been treated by Murray in Las Vegas, was reportedly the one who suggested the cardiologist serve as his personal, on-call physician during the "This Is It" rehearsals and shows.
Katherine Jackson's attorney recently dropped choreographer Kenny Ortega from the lawsuit based on new information they received about his actions. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for March 22, just six days before Murray is due back in court for his trial. Jackson's father, Joseph, has twice attempted to file a wrongful death suit in the matter, though his is focused on Murray and the Las Vegas pharmacy that supplied the propofol, not AEG Live.

Britney Spears' 'Till The World Ends' Hits Web

Femme Fatale's second single was penned by Ke$ha.By Jocelyn Vena

Photo: Jive

Britney Spears' new single, "Till the World Ends," sounds poised to be a club smash. The Ke$ha-written, Dr. Luke/Max Martin-produced track was posted by Perez Hilton on Thursday afternoon (March 3), after speculation earlier in the day that the song would hit radio next week.
"Till the World Ends" is a swirling, "beat the beat" track, ready for late nights spent "dancing till the world ends" as she sings on the fast-paced party jam. "This kitten got your tongue tied in knots I see/ Spit it out 'cause I'm dying for company," a confident Spears purrs.
As the song slows for a moment — during a break before she moves her way to the chorus — she sings, "I can't take it take it take no more/ Never felt like felt like this before/ Come on get me get me on the floor/ DJ, what you what you waiting for?" she teases.
The beat chugs in the background as synths play with Spears' sex-kitten delivery of lines like "Watch me move/ When I lose, when I lose it hard/ Get you off with a touch/ Dancing in the dark.
"See the sunlight/ We ain't stopping/ Keep on dancing till the world ends/ If you feel it/ Let it happen/ Keep on dancing till the world ends," she sings as the song breaks down, fading out for a brief moment (revealing her signature breathiness), and then coming back in as she repeats those final lines again to close the song.
Ke$ha recently dished about the track to Spin.com, noting that it is about the power of an artist performing a great gig. "That song is me imagining her and any female musician touring the world," she said. "You know, when you go out, and you're having an amazing, magical night and you don't want to go to sleep and you want it to last until the world ends."
"Till the World Ends" is the second single from Femme Fatale, set to drop March 29. Its lead single, "Hold It Against Me," was an equally club-friendly jam by Luke and Martin, who are overseeing production on the album.

Robert Pattinson Reflects On His Hair Evolution

From 'The Wavy Forest' to 'The Cullen Pouf,' RPattz discusses 'dos on 'MTV First: Robert Pattinson.'By Aly Semigran, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Robert Pattinson in "Twilight"

Photo: Summit Entertainment

In his upcoming film, the 1930s period drama "Water for Elephants," based on Sara Gruen's best-selling novel of the same name, Robert Pattinson begins to show new depth and range as an actor. Plus, his hair looks really, really different.
Much like his career, RPattz's hair is evolving. So, when MTV News sat down with the star for "MTV First: Robert Pattinson," it seemed like the perfect time to reflect on the diverse coifs that have sent his follicle-obsessed fans into a frenzy.

From his "Twilight"-appropriate 'dos such as "The Wavy Forest" and "The Cullen Pouf" to the self-explanatory "Windswept 'What the F---' " to the more subdued and serious looks like "Controlled Chaos" and "Clean & Cut but Hold the Shave," Pattinson took a trip down memory lane of the many haircuts he's rocked.
"I always like ... the 'Forest' thing," he said. Turns out, that particular hair style carried him through what he describes as the "unemployable" phase of his career. While attending the Los Angeles premiere of "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" in 2007, Pattinson admitted to looking rather, well, unkempt.
"I walked down Hollywood Boulevard to Grauman's [Chinese Theater] and had to walk through the crowd and stuff," recalled the 24-year-old star who was not yet famous, adding, "I was so hungover and so bloated, and some of the pictures are just so funny. It literally looks like someone just found a homeless person and just put them on [the red carpet]. ... It was so ridiculous."
So, what is it that helps the star maintain that tousled, albeit sometimes homeless-looking hair? Courtesy of his "Twilight" co-star Ashley Greene, we asked RPattz what brand of shampoo he uses: "I use dog shampoo," he joked. In reality, he, like so many other sexy slacker types before him, simply uses, "Whatever is around."
But, the question remained: Would Pattinson ever rock the oh-so-sought-after Justin Bieber 'do? Despite rumors that he and his fellow heartthrob had discussed their hair together ("I never met this guy!" Pattinson told MTV), the actor was somewhat willing to take on the side-swept style. After laughing about the idea of sporting "The Bieber," RPattz quipped that instead he'd wear "a Bieber hat."
Which Robert Pattinson hairstyle is your favorite? Sound off in the comments below!
Check out everything we've got on "Water for Elephants."

Michael Gough, 'Batman' Co-Star, Dies At 94

British actor played butler Alfred in the 1989-1997 adaptations.By Aly Semigran

Gotham City has lost one of its own today. Legions of "Batman" fans are mourning the loss of British actor Michael Gough, who played the Caped Crusader's iconic right-hand man/butler Alfred Pennyworth in several of the comic's movie adaptations.
On Thursday (March 17), Gough, who appeared alongside Michael Keaton in the 1989 original "Batman," passed away at the age of 94. The cause of his death has not yet been reported.
In addition to playing Alfred (a role that was later taken over by Michael Caine) in 1992's "Batman Returns," 1995's "Batman Forever" and 1997's "Batman & Robin," the BAFTA Award-winning actor also appeared as both the Celestial Toymaker and Councillor Hedin in the original "Doctor Who" television series. He won a Tony Award in 1979 for the Broadway play "Bedroom Farce."
Gough was born in 1916 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and began his acting career in 1946. He starred in a number of TV-movies and series, including 1967's "Pride and Prejudice," in which he played Mr. Bennet. His long list of impressive film credits includes 1962's "The Phantom of the Opera," Sydney Pollack's Oscar-winner "Out of Africa" and Martin Scorcese's "The Age of Innocence."
Gough had maintained a good working relationship with director Tim Burton since their time together on "Batman." He also appeared in the director's "Sleepy Hollow," "Corpse Bride" and, in what would be his last major project, as the voice of Dodo Bird in 2010's "Alice in Wonderland."

Robert Pattinson Cries B.S. In His #1 MTV Moment

RPattz will debut an exclusive 'Water for Elephants' clip and answer fan questions live tonight at 8:56 p.m. ET on MTV.com.By MTV News staff

Robert Pattinson at the "Eclipse" premiere in 2010

Our weeklong celebration of all things Robert Pattinson has almost reached its glorious, OME-laden conclusion with the debut of "MTV First: Robert Pattinson," our 30-minute conversation with the "Twilight" star. But before the show goes live at 8:56 p.m. ET, we've got one more favorite RPattz moment to present — our favorite one of all.

Previously, we've celebrated our first interview with him and Kristen Stewart, the duo's onstage smooch at the MTV Movie Awards, Rob's first appearance at the Oscars and his love for "Twilight"-branded personal lubrication.
So what happened to nab our #1 favorite RPattz moment? Oh, just the time he uncorked a few filthy words during a live MTV News interview.
It all went down last June at the "Eclipse" premiere during our red-carpet live stream. The crowd outside the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles was squealing like mad, and we wanted to know if one rumor could possibly be true: Was Pattinson really looking forward to the moment the "Twilight" franchise would be behind him?
"That was such bullsh--. I am so pissed off!" he said.
But Rob, man, we're live!
"Oh sh--!" he cried.
That's not making it better. Oh well, those are the perils and pleasures of reporting live. And as it turned out, after Pattinson declared that he'd been misquoted about being ready to leave "Twilight" behind, he went on to give us a very thoughtful answer about the prospect of life after the vampire franchise.
"Anyone who says they're tired of this is completely crazy. If I ever said that, someone should just remind me of what I was doing before: just sitting around doing nothing," he said, adding, "I love doing the movies. I like all the people. I've had a great time on all of them. The cast is great. It's just weird. It's become so much a part of my life. It's like divorcing someone. I guess I'll see. Maybe it'll be great. I have no idea."
Don't miss "MTV First: Robert Pattinson" tonight at 8:56 p.m. ET on MTV and MTV.com. Tune in to see RPattz introduce a new "Water for Elephants" clip, followed by a live 30-minute interview on MTV.com. Tweet questions using the hashtag #askrob to get in the conversation!

While Willow Smith is the one who made music headlines with "Whip My Hair" last year, it's her brother, "Karate Kid" actor Jaden Smith, who will take the stage at the upcoming 53rd Grammy Awards in a special performance alongside Usher and Justin Bieber, with whom he collaborated on the song "Never Say Never" last summer.
The trio joins a list of new performers added to the show on Thursday (January 20) that will also include another power trifecta made up of B.o.B, Bruno Mars and Janelle Monáe, according to a press release from the Recording Academy announcing the additions to the February 13 telecast from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Also taking the stage next month will be nominees Muse and Lady Antebellum. They will join a roster of previously announced performers that includes Eminem, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Arcade Fire, Cee Lo Green and Miranda Lambert. It will be the first time on the Grammy performance stage for Bieber, B.o.B, Lambert, Mars, Monáe, Muse and Smith. Eminem, Green, Gaga, Perry, Usher and Lady Antebellum will be making return visits for the occasion.
While 11-time Grammy winner Eminem leads the pack in nominations this year (with 10 nods), Mars has seven nominations, and Gaga and Lady Antebellum are not far behind with six nods each. B.o.B has notched five, Perry and Green are each up for four, and Arcade Fire and Lambert are vying for three awards. Bieber, Muse, Usher and Monáe are each nominated for two Grammys.
No details of the collaborative performances were released, but the Grammy announcement promised a rare, never-before-seen event for the Mars, B.o.B and Monáe segment.
With the addition of Antebellum, all five Album of the Year nominees (Eminem, Arcade Fire, Gaga, Perry) are now scheduled to perform on the show. Additional performers, presenters and special segments will be announced soon.

Lady Gaga Says No Duets On Born This Way

'I want to stand on my own two feet,' Gaga says.By Jocelyn Vena

Lady Gaga

On Lady Gaga's 2009 smash The Fame Monster, the eccentric star hooked up with one of the fiercest ladies in the game when she and Beyoncé got their party on for the club anthem "Telephone." The singers then appeared together in an over-the-top music video in which they played a Quentin Tarantino-esque version of Thelma and Louise.
As the May 23 release date of Gaga's latest musical opus Born This Way draws near, the singer's little monsters are wondering if the star has secured any A-list talent for a collaboration on the new album.

In a recent radio chat, Gaga revealed that she's not planning on having anyone guest on Born This Way, according to Digital Spy. "I want to stand on my own two feet. I've already collaborated with my favorite female in the business," she teased. "We'll see how I'm feeling when I'm wrapping up the album."
With the anticipation for the record so high, fans are beginning to piece together the puzzle of BTW. Reported lyrics for her second single, "Judas," have already hit the Internet. On the track, Gaga waxes poetic about a lover whom she loves more than he loves her.
"Judas/ You never ever never/ Ever really ever loved me more, than I/ But Nemesis is watching over-high," she reportedly sings. "And this is your time/ Judas, lie on lie, write/ Tears drop 'cause I cry/ The echo truth killed you so you may finally die."
Lyrics for another BTW track, "Government Hooker," also reportedly found their way onto the Internet. A remix of the song debuted last week at the Thierry Mugler fashion show in Paris.
On the song, Gaga sings, "We had our night/ Our real nature/ No more time to decide/ Let it climb, let it ignite/ I can be cool/ I can be anything/ I'll be your everything/ Just touch me baby."

Neon Trees 'Confident' They'll Overcome Patrick Stump In Musical March Madness

Utah pop-rockers enter tournament as a #5 seed, but find themselves in an early hole against #12 Stump.By James Montgomery

Neon Trees' Tyler Glenn

Photo: Samuel Dietz/ Redferns

On Monday, when we unveiled our 2011 Musical March Madness bracket, there were more than a few shock seedings ... though perhaps none were as eye-opening as the #5 seed given to Neon Trees, the Provo, Utah, quartet who went from unknowns to rock-radio staples thanks to a relentless touring schedule and the success of their song "Animal."
The selection committee was obviously impressed with their overall body of work (tough, out-of-conference schedule, high RPI, etc.), but with first-round voting set to close on Sunday, the Trees find themselves locked in a tight battle with 12th-seeded Patrick Stump, perhaps proving that they're not yet ready for the MMM stage.

Mel Gibson's 'Beaver': SXSW Premiere Reviews Are In!

Critic calls troubled actor's performance 'absurd and darkly unsettling.'By Eric Ditzian

Mel Gibson in "The Beaver"

Photo: Summit Entertainment

"The Beaver" would have probably been your standard feature film about a suicidal man who uses a hand puppet as a way to better interact with the world around him had its star, Mel Gibson, not uncorked a few hate-filled rants that would ultimately lead to the actor being charged with spousal abuse.
To say "The Beaver" entered the South by Southwest film festival with some baggage, then, doesn't capture the half of it. The spectacle of watching an actor in the midst of a meltdown portray a man in the midst of a meltdown is hard to resist. But it's going to be a while until the masses get to check out the action, as Summit Entertainment has pushed back the movie's release date until May. Until then, check out what critics at SXSW had to say after the film's premiere Wednesday.

Getting Past the Spectacle, Part I "Those echoes of Mel Gibson's well-publicized breakdowns are impossible to ignore in an opening sequence introducing us to his character Walter Black, who first appears floating in a pool, arms outstretched like Christ's. A few shots later, we see this 'hopelessly depressed man,' who has tried everything to remedy his condition, flagellating himself like a Catholic penitent. Whether intentional or not, this front-and-center reminder works almost as an inoculation to viewers for whom controversy might be a distraction from drama: Having put it out there frankly (much as the protagonist will soon do, in more outlandish ways, with his own issues), the movie kills a bit of our morbid curiosity; our awareness that this depressed character is being played by a troubled actor never vanishes, but it is allowed to inform the story at hand." — John DeFore, The Hollywood Reporter
Getting Past the Spectacle, Part II "Casting Mel Gibson is both a blessing and a curse. Not since 'I'm Not There' have I spent more time during a film having a meta-textual conversation with myself. What were the people on set thinking as they watched Gibson crack? Did making this film help Gibson's mental health, or make it worse? Truth be told, this extra dimension only aids the film." — Jordan Hoffman, UGO
Mel's Performance
"His solo scenes are both absurd and darkly unsettling for several reasons, some of which depend on your tolerance for watching the notoriously bad-tempered actor, well, lose his temper: Whether awkwardly failing to hang himself in a bathtub or beating himself up with a guitar, Gibson demonstrates an expansive madness that suggests a much darker, more involving psychological transition." — Eric Kohn, IndieWire
The Big Picture, Part I
"It may surprise some of you to learn that the story is more of a drama than a comedy. As you might expect, there are comedic moments that come from the puppet's inclusion in various situations. But the story aims more for drama than comedy. 'The Beaver' is too ridiculous to be taken seriously, and too melodramatic to be funny. Foster wrestles to capture the right tones, but the shifts are messy from scene to scene, and it never seems to find the right fit." — Peter Sciretta, SlashFilm
The Big Picture, Part II
" 'The Beaver' is not a comedy, it's true, but it is a deft exploration of the ways we struggle to express something as ineffable as depression, and the lengths we will endure to save our families. It is a potent reminder of why [director] Jodie Foster should have made more movies by now. And it is a strong beginning for screenwriter Kyle Killen." — Drew McWeeny, HitFix

Mary J. Blige Dishes On Her 'Crazy' Led Zeppelin Covers

'I've listened to their music since I was a child,' says the R&B diva, who recorded 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Whole Lotta Love.'By James Montgomery, with reporting by Larry Carroll

Mary J. Blige

Photo: MTV News

You wouldn't peg Mary J Blige as the black-light-and-tapestry sort, but, as has become readily apparent in recent weeks, she absolutely loves Led Zeppelin.
In early February, reports began circulating that Blige had re-recorded Zeppelin's classic "Stairway to Heaven," working with Travis Barker, "American Idol" judge Randy Jackson and guitarist Steve Vai on the track, which is slated to appear on the international reissue of her Stronger With Each Tear album, due Monday.

But after she had recorded "Stairway," Blige continued to get the Led out, covering another Zeppelin classic — the thunderous "Whole Lotta Love" — for the album too. And when MTV News caught up with her on the Essence Black Women in Hollywood red carpet, she told us all about channeling her inner Robert Plant for the tracks, a process that came much easier than you'd probably imagine.
"I did Led Zeppelin's 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Whole Lotta Love' — it's crazy," she said. "I am a Led Zeppelin fan. I'm not going to say I've been to their concerts, but I've listened to their music since I was a child, and it's always moved me, especially 'Stairway to Heaven,' and 'Whole Lotta Love' is just fun."
Blige also said she recorded another new song — a "club record" called "I Can't Wait" — for the re-release. And while it's only slated to hit shelves outside the U.S., she hopes her fans will get a chance to hear all the new songs pretty soon.
"I want y'all to hear it," she laughed.

Foo Fighters Slam 'Glee' Creator Ryan Murphy

'F--- that guy for thinking everybody should want to do 'Glee,' ' Dave Grohl says.By Jocelyn Vena

The Foo Fighters are the latest rock stars taking aim at "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy. In a new interview, Dave Grohl says that Murphy shouldn't complain when bands don't want to include their music on his hit Fox show.
The "Glee" creator has butted heads with Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash and had an epic war of words with Kings of Leon. Now the Foos are speaking out.
"It's every band's right, you shouldn't have to do f---ing 'Glee,'" Grohl told The Hollywood Reporter. "And then the guy who created 'Glee' is so offended that we're not, like, begging to be on his f---ing show. ... F--- that guy for thinking anybody and everybody should want to do 'Glee.' ... I watched 10 minutes. It's not my thing."
The band's frontman isn't the only Fighter who isn't into the show. Drummer Taylor Hawkins feels the same as his bandmate.
"The 'Glee' guy, what a f---ing jerk. Slash was the first one. He wanted to do Guns N' Roses and Slash is like, 'I hate f---ing musicals. It's worse than "Grease." ' Then [Murphy's] like, 'Well, of course he'd say that, he's a washed-up ol' rock star, that's what they f---ing do.' And then Kings of Leon say, 'No, we don't want to be on your show.' And then he's like, 'Snotty little assholes.' And it's just like, dude, maybe not everyone loves 'Glee,' " Hawkins said. "Me included. ... Yeah, f--- that sh--."

Ke$ha's 'Blow' Director Addresses Lady Gaga 'Unicorn' Flap

Unicorn cameos in 'Born This Way' and 'Blow' videos is 'just weird coincidence,' Chris Marrs Piliero tells MTV News.By Jocelyn Vena

Ke$ha in her video for "Blow"

Photo: RCA

The brand-new videos for Ke$ha's "Blow" and Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" couldn't be more different. But fans on the Web have been comparing the clips, thanks to a special cameo the two videos have in common. With unicorns appearing in both "Blow" and "BTW," some Gaga fans are accusing the K-Dollar of stealing from their Mother Monster.
But MTV News spoke to "Blow" director Chris Marrs Piliero, who explained that it's pure coincidence his video and the Nick Knight-directed video both feature unicorns.
"It's very odd. It's one of those weird things, and I think a lot of people on the Internet don't grasp the sense of time [that goes into making videos]. Some Gaga fans, they don't realize that just because it was announced there might be a unicorn [in Gaga's video], it's like, we didn't film the video after that announcement," he said.
"It's like [the movies] 'Dante's Peak' and 'Volcano' and then there was 'Armageddon' and 'Deep Impact.' I don't know, I know when things like that happen when I was a part of the audience, I was like, 'That's weird and fishy,' but now being on the other side, it's just weird coincidences," he explained. "What are the odds of that?"
In fact, Piliero had a gut feeling that he should use unicorns many, many moons ago and he thought Ke$ha was the right artist to join with the mythological creatures onscreen.
"Ke$ha was looking to make kind of something different, a video that was cool and random, and I had this idea running in my head with just the idea of unicorns," he recalled. "If I massacred unicorns, they could bleed rainbows. I'm a fan of violence and I'm always trying to find a way to make it OK."
The rainbow-spewing unicorns weren't the only cameo that Piliero hoped to nab. He also wanted "Dawson's Creek" star James Van Der Beek to appear in the clip. "He's such an awesome guy. He was down for it," he said. "He had seen the Black Keys video [I shot] and he was stoked on the idea. It was so much fun. He and Ke$ha kind of went for all the craziness. I think he has a fantastic comic side. He's good at being naturally funny. It's about the delivery."
Ke$ha, of course, was onboard for all the zaniness. "Before we started filming, we had quite a few talks. She was adamant you can't back away from the crazy; everything about the idea she loved and she enforced the fact that she wanted to embrace every aspect of it and really go for it," he recalled. "On set, she was having fun. She was like, 'I want to lick a unicorn.' It was rad working with her because there definitely wasn't a sense of her feeling awkward about stuff or detached; no ego. It felt like we had worked together before."

Exclusive: Jennifer Lawrence Officially Cast In 'Hunger Games'

Author Suzanne Collins gives Oscar-nominated actress her blessing to play Katniss Everdeen.By Kara Warner

At long last, after seemingly endless debate, speculation and rumors, MTV News has received exclusive confirmation that Jennifer Lawrence has landed the highly coveted role of Katniss Everdeen in the big-screen adaptation of "The Hunger Games."

According to Lionsgate, the 20-year-old actress is a fitting choice due to her "meteoric ascent" to Hollywood stardom with her Oscar-nominated role in "Winter's Bone," to be followed by roles in Matthew Vaughn's "X Men: First Class" and "The Beaver," directed by Jodie Foster.
"Hunger Games" author Suzanne Collins has already given Lawrence's casting her blessing, via a statement from the studio.
"Jennifer's just an incredible actress," Collins said. "So powerful, vulnerable, beautiful, unforgiving and brave. I never thought we'd find somebody this perfect for the role. And I can't wait for everyone to see her play it."
Director Gary Ross also praised his lead actress: "I'm so excited to work with Jen and see her bring this character to life. Katniss requires a young actress with strength, depth, complexity, tenderness, and power. There are very few people alive who can bring that to a role. Jen brings it in spades. She's going to be an amazing Katniss."
The movie, based on Collins' dystopian best-seller about children forced to compete in a fight-to-the-death battle, is slated to hit theaters March 23, 2012.

Justin Bieber's Next Album To Capture Justin Timberlake's Magic

Songwriter Sean Garrett says former 'NSYNC star's success inspires Bieber's new project and also dishes on Beyoncé's album.By Mawuse Ziegbe

Justin Bieber may have declined the chance to join Justin Timberlake's label, but according to a songwriter in the know, the former 'NSYNC crooner is the inspiration for the teen sensation's upcoming album.
Songwriter Sean "The Pen "Garrett, who has been working with Bieber on the follow-up to the chart-ruling My World 2.0., spoke with Billboard about the direction for the teen superstar's forthcoming album, saying the project will feature more grown-up fare.
"What we're trying to do with Justin is to segue him into young adulthood," Garrett said of the project, which is also slated to feature production from hitmaker Christopher "Tricky" Stewart. "The one great thing about Justin Bieber is the fact that his fans are going to grow with him. So we want all the fans that started out with him to still be intrigued and excited about him, but we want to also stretch out a little bit and make the fans that are 22-23 years old love Justin as well. When Justin Timberlake went from the last album of *N Sync to his first solo album -- I want to say [we're aiming for] that level. That's the bar for the type of song, that level of 'Cry Me a River,' big records."
Garrett, who has crafted records for stars like Chris Brown and Bieber's mentor Usher, also said he's hard at work on Beyoncé's next project. However, the songwriter didn't divulge too much information, only revealing that he's "been working with her extremely hard ... she's my favorite."
While Garrett said the plan for his next outing is to angle Bieber toward a swiftly maturing audience, Bieber himself has refused to categorize his music, insisting to MTV News in December that he's just focused on creating quality records.
"Whatever comes out of my mouth is just what you guys are going to hear," Bieber explained of his hits. "I don't know, it's not a specific type of music. Whatever music I write, I wouldn't say I'm pop or R&B or country or anything: I would just say it's just good music,"
What do you think Justin Bieber's new music is going to sound like? Let us know in the comments!

Britney Spears May Release Ke$ha-Penned Track As Next Single

'Till The World Ends' expected out sometime next week.By Jocelyn Vena

Slowly but surely, fans are getting a taste of what Britney Spears' March 29 album release, Femme Fatale, will sound like. On Wednesday, Spears slowed things down with the tease for her track "Criminal" and psyched fans up with the news that she worked with Travis Barker on the album.
Fans are speculating that the next single released will be the Ke$ha-penned track, "Till the World Ends." Art for the single's cover, in which Spears appears sitting on a couch in a sweater and heels, was posted at Deezer.com.
A 30-second snippet of the song appeared on Amazon.de, which indicates that the single will be available on March 11. The track sounds like a fist-pumping anthem, and the sample showcases Spears' electronically enhanced vocals going "Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh."
The single will reportedly drop sometime next week, according to a tweet sent out by Tampa radio station 93.3 FM. "Hearing from Jive Records that we'll have a new @BritneySpears single to play next week!"
Ke$ha recently dished about the track to Spin.com, noting that the song is about the power of an artist performing a great gig. "That song is me imagining her and any female musician touring the world," she says. "You know, when you go out, and you're having an amazing, magical night and you don't want to go to sleep and you want it to last until the world ends."
Spears' longtime manager Larry Rudolph recently told MTV News that he's super-excited about the next single off Femme Fatale. "I don't think I've been this excited about releasing a Britney single in many, many years," he said. "It's that good. That's all I'm gonna say about it at the moment. I haven't heard a final mix of it, but I should get it in the next day or two. So far, what I've heard is just extraordinary. It really is amazing. Her fans will be very happy with it. I'm trying hard to get it out before the album comes out."
For those keeping count, it's not the first time Ke$ha and Spears have worked together. Ke$ha appeared on the Circus song "Lace and Leather." "I just did backgrounds for her 'cause I was so broke. I needed to pay my rent," she shared back in 2009. "I got a few bucks. No, [I didn't meet her]. I just did backups for her."

Lady Gaga Teams Up With Google For Fan Interview

Pop singer posts video message inviting fans to ask her questions.By James Dinh

Lady Gaga has always found creative ways to interact with her fans, and her latest idea is no exception. On Tuesday, the pop titan took to YouTube to post a video message inviting her Little Monsters to ask her questions in an upcoming Google interview.
Standing against a brick wall, Gaga greets her fans in the beginning of the black-and-white video, saying, "Hello, Little Monsters. This is Lady Gaga on the road at the Monster Ball. I wanted to let you in on the news that I'll be doing an exclusive Google interview using one of their tools called the moderator, which allows you guys to ask me all the questions that you want.
"Do you have something that you always wanted to know about me or maybe you have questions about my fashion love or even the kind of things I search for on Google. Well, now is your chance!" she continues in the clip.
Fans can participate in the interview by heading to the singer's YouTube channel and submitting videos or written questions. While on the singer's page, they can also vote for the questions they want to hear the most. In addition to the video network, fans can tweet their questions using the hashtag #GoogleGoesGaga. Fans have until the end of the day Friday to submit their entries.
"I'll post the video interview with all my questions next week, so stay tuned. I'll let you know when it goes up, and remember, you're all amazing and I love you so, so much. I'll see you soon. You were born this way," she concludes with her monster growl.
As of Wednesday (March 16), some of the most popular submissions included everything from pre-fame bullies to backstage tour stories.
"You said that in school a lot of people bullied you and didn't like you," one fan wrote. "Now that you are famous, have any of them tried to 'apologize' and become friends? If so, what did you say to them?"
"What do you do with all the T-shirts, stuffed animals, letters, hats and other monster gifts you receive?" asked another fan.

Kat Dennings, Travie McCoy Talk Filming 'Renee'

'We're gonna see Travie perform and a lot of people dancing,' Dennings tells MTV News about film based on struggling teen.By Jocelyn Vena

Kat Dennings

Photo: MTV News

A story by Jamie Tworkowski about a teen named Renee Yohe who dealt with issues like drugs and depression is now the subject of the movie "Renee," with Kat Dennings set to play the lead role.
Written in 2006, Tworkowski's story triggered the "To Write Love on Her Arms" campaign, helping to shed light and bring support to other young people struggling with similar issues. In addition to Dennings, Gym Class Heroes frontman Travie McCoy makes a cameo in the flick, which also stars Chad Michael Murray, Rupert Friend and Corbin Bleu.

When we visited the set of the movie, McCoy told MTV News that his experience on the annual Warped Tour helped him connect to the story at the heart of the film.
"Anybody that's familiar with Warped Tour, they've seen the T-shirts that say 'To Write Love on Her Arms.' This movie is about Renee ... basically, the girl the charity is about," he explained. "When Renee puts her headphones on, it's this sense of escapism and she puts herself into this crazy world that music brings her to."
Like McCoy, Dennings told us that the music in the film is a key part of telling the inner-monologue of Renee and her pals.
Regarding one particular scene, Dennings explained it revolves around "when [Renee and her friends] get to school and they want to tune out the reality of what school is, 'cause it's pretty boring and upsetting. To escape it, they all listen to the same song, so we're gonna see Travie perform and a lot of people dancing, which I'm really excited [about]."
McCoy, who provides the song for the scene, explained his role. "My song, 'A Kid Again,' is playing in this high school hallway as [Renee's] listening to her headphones and walking down the hallway," he said. "And I kind of pop out from the locker as a student and roll down the hallway, but I'm really not supposed to be there. It's just her imagination."

Them Crooked Vultures make their debut with a post-Lollapalooza set.By James Montgomery

Officially, Lollapalooza ended Sunday night in Chicago's Grant Park, with dueling sets from the Killers and Jane's Addiction. Unofficially, it ended very early Monday morning, across town at venerable rock club the Metro, with a surprise show by Them Crooked Vultures.
To the unfamiliar, the Vultures might seem like an odd choice to close out Lolla weekend ... until you realize that they're made up of Foo Fighters frontman/ former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, Queens of the Stone Age mastermind Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin legend John Paul Jones. And their gig at the Metro was their world premiere.
According to some reports, the Vultures actually turned down Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell's request to replace the Beastie Boys as headliners at the festival, opting to debut in front of some 1,100 super-psyched fans at the Metro, rather than 75,000 in Grant Park (tickets for the gig were announced via Foo Fighter/ QOTSA fan clubs). Meaning that, in a lot of ways, this was the most sought-after ticket in town.
Taking the stage just after midnight, the Vultures — Grohl on drums (of course), Homme on guitar and vocals, Jones on bass and keys and frequent QOTSA contributor Alain Johannes on guitar — ripped through 12 songs in 80 minutes, all taken from their upcoming debut, which may or may not be called Never Deserved the Future, and may or may not be hitting stores on October 23 (early "promo" videos touting both those facts were revealed over the weekend to be hoaxes perpetrated by QOTSA fans).
The songs, with appropriately Homme-ian titles like "Scumbag Blues," "Mind Eraser (No Chaser)," "Caligulove" and "Interlude w/Ludes," sounded pretty much how you'd expect, given the band's pedigree. They rocked, hard — Chicago Tribune critic Greg Kot described them as "fresh, invigorating and just plain nasty" — delving off into psychedelic, reverb-filled excursions and exploring proggy territory, "both of the old-school Yes variety, and the more modern Tool flavor," according to the Chicago Sun-Times' Jim DeRogatis.
It's not known if Monday's Metro performance was a one-off event for the Vultures — there have been whispers of a full-blown tour, but a spokesperson for Homme had not responded to MTV News' request for comment at press time. Nor was it clear whether or not they'll have an album out in October.
Early Monday, a Crooked Vultures Twitter account, which had previously posted links to the band's official-looking Web site and the Metro's online ticketing site — posted a link to what appears to be the group's first bit of official merchandise: a Deserve the Future T-shirt. Cost: $30.

Beyonce Donated Gadhafi Money To Haiti Relief Last Year

Music industry urges other stars who played for Libyan dictator's family to donate their earnings.By Gil Kaufman

Photo: Al Pereira/ WireImage

Just days after singer Nelly Furtado announced that she planned to donate to charity money she received for playing a concert for the family of Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi, a spokesperson for Beyoncé said that the "Halo" singer had already done the same.
Documents obtained by the WikiLeaks website revealed that stars including Beyoncé, Usher and Mariah Carey had played big-paycheck gigs for Gadhafi. On Monday, Rolling Stone magazine reported that the industry was urging the stars (noting that rapper 50 Cent had also played such gigs) to return the money they earned for the concerts.
"They've done it for tons of artists," an unnamed music-business source told the magazine about lavish parties by Gadhafi's son, Muatassim, which are reportedly often "jammed" with supermodels. "Those guys are all over the world."
On Wednesday, a rep for Beyoncé — who played a New Year's Eve gig for Muatassim with Usher on the Caribbean island of St. Barts in 2009 — told the Huffington Post that the singer had long ago resolved the matter.
"All monies paid to Beyoncé for her performance at a private party at Nikki Beach St. Barts on New Year's Eve 2009, including the commissions paid to her booking agency, were donated to the earthquake relief efforts for Haiti over a year ago," her publicist said. "Once it became known that the third-party promoter was linked to the Qaddafi family, the decision was made to put that payment to a good cause."
The money was donated to the Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund, established in the wake of last year's devastating earthquake, and a spokesperson for the fund confirmed that it received the $1 million check in the weeks after the January 2010 earthquake.
According to her official Twitter feed, Canadian pop star Nelly Furtado confirmed on Monday that she once did a show for the dictator's family and now plans to donate the money to charity. "In 2007, I received 1million$ from the Gadhafi clan to perform a 45 min. show for guests at a hotel in Italy," she wrote on Monday. "I am going to donate the $."
The star-studded shows were part of the extravagant lifestyle of the dictator's sons, whose splashy parties and out-of-control spending have angered their countrymen, many of whom wallow in poverty as the Gadhafi clan benefits from the country's oil riches.

Michael Jackson Doctor Pleads Not Guilty To Involuntary Manslaughter

Conrad Murray's trial slated to start March 28.By Gil Kaufman

Dr. Conrad Murray appears in court on Tuesday in Los Angeles, California

Photo: Irfan Khan-Pool/ Getty Images

Michael Jackson's former personal physician Dr. Conrad Murray entered a plea of not guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter in the June 2009 death of the pop star at his arraignment on Tuesday morning (January 25).
According to the Los Angeles Times, when asked by judge Michael Pastor how he pleaded to the charge, Murray said, "Your honor, I am an innocent man." When Pastor interrupted and asked Murray what his plea was, the cardiologist said, "Therefore, I plead not guilty."
The brief hearing in Los Angeles Superior Court ended with Pastor setting a March 28 date for the start of a trial in the case. Murray faces a maximum of four years in prison if convicted, and the Times noted that he surprised the judge by invoking his right to a speedy trial, which meant the case would have to begin by late March. Pastor noted the rarity of a defendant asking to have a speedy trial, then set jury selection for the week of March 28 and said he was inclined to allow television coverage of the trial that the defense expects will last two months.
Lawyers for Murray have maintained his innocence all along, saying he did not do anything that "should have" caused the 50-year-old pop icon's death. The Los Angeles County Coroner's office determined that Jackson died of an overdose of the surgical anesthetic propofol mixed with a cocktail of other sedatives.
Murray has admitted to administering propofol to Jackson in the hours before the singer's death, but the defense appears to be gearing up to claim that it was Jackson who administered the final, fatal dose of the drug after he woke in a panic from a fitful night of sleep.
During a preliminary hearing earlier this month to determine if there was enough evidence to hold Murray over for trial, the physician's attorneys said that there was evidence Jackson injected or drank a fatal amount of the drug when the doctor was not looking.

Robert Pattinson's 10 Best MTV Quotes

Gear up for RPattz's 'MTV First' live stream (Friday at 8:56 p.m) by looking back at a few choice lines he's given us.By Eric Ditzian

Robert Pattinson

Anything could happen during "MTV First: Robert Pattinson," our live chat with the "Twilight" star on Friday. He did, after all, once drop two curses in less than two seconds during a live interview with us on the "Eclipse" red carpet. There's no telling what might pop out of RPattz's mouth during the live, 30-minute interview.

Whatever does happen, though, you can count on it being entertaining. In his own kinda awkward, always endearing way, Pattinson has a knack for delivering memorable sound bites. As we count down the days until "MTV First: Robert Pattinson" at 8:56 p.m. ET on Friday, we plucked out our 10 favorite quotes of his, ranging from those strange days when RPattz wasn't yet a household name to recent comments about a "Breaking Dawn" photo of him in bed with Kristen Stewart.
10. "This is the first time, really, that I'll be confronted with a bunch of Twilighters. I guess I can see for myself. But I'm kind of nervous about it." — At Comic-Con in 2008
9. "The worst part is you've got to work almost every single day, which is something I'm never going to get used to." — On the downside of being Edward Cullen, at the Los Angeles premiere of "New Moon"
8. "I didn't see Taylor until just a little bit before we started shooting. When he came back, I had the same reaction as everybody else. I was like, 'Jeez, now I have to go to the gym!' — Speaking to MTV Radio about seeing Taylor Lautner's pre-"New Moon" physical transformation for the first time
7. "It made me feel really tough, really hard. I don't think I've ever won a fight in my life." — On winning Best Fight with Cam Gigandet at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards
6. "To be honest, I should've been nominated in a few more categories." — On "New Moon" only receiving five noms at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards
5. "Before 'Twilight,' I did any movie that I got [offered], and you'd try and make the best of it afterward. But now you're expected to come into the movie and provide not only economic viability, but also a performance as well. You can't just mess around. People are like, 'We're employing you to be here, as a star and an actor.' It's difficult, and it's scary." — On the pressures that come with superstardom.
4. "The idea of kind of doing this big romantic kiss, like Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams did [for 'The Notebook'], I couldn't do that. I'd be so embarrassed! So I just thought, 'We better do something dumb.' But then Kristen didn't want to do something dumb!" — On his awkward smooch with KStew while accepting the win for Best Kiss at the 2010 Movie Awards
3. "I love how they release that for the first one. They just give it all away." — Speaking at the Golden Globes about the publication of a photo of Edward and Bella in bed on their honeymoon
2. "I like the story about me being pregnant. It was in some Australian magazine, on the front page! I was like, 'Wow, that's just [insane].' And it's not even ironic. I don't even think the article [tried to justify it]; it was just a headline. The article was just like, nothing." — On the strange things he learns when Googling himself
1. "Lot of my crack in it!" — On his onscreen nudity in the upcoming drama, "Bel Ami"
Don't miss "MTV First: Robert Pattinson" this Friday at 8:56 p.m. ET on MTV and MTV.com. Tune in to see RPattz introduce a new "Water for Elephants" clip, followed by a live 30-minute interview on MTV.com. Tweet questions using the hashtag #askrob to get in the conversation!

Britney Spears Teases New Track '(Drop Dead) Beautiful'

Snippet of the party song hit the Web over the weekend.By Jocelyn Vena

Britney Spears

Photo: Jeremy Cowart/ WireImage

Another day, another Britney Spears Femme Fatale tease. This time around Spears is giving fans a preview of her track "(Drop Dead) Beautiful," which features an appearance by newcomer Sabi (although her part doesn't appear in the super-short tease of the song).
Like most of the songs teased off the March 29 release, this track is a party song. While Spears seems to be flirting with some hottie, she's also getting a bit sassy on the track, which was produced by Benny Blanco, Ammo, JMike and Billboard.
Over a rollicking club beat, she sings, "Look at you/ Look at you/ Be my sweetie/ Be my honey tonight/ Look at you/ Look at you/ Be my sweetie/ Be my honey tonight/ 'Cause you're beautiful/ Drop dead."
Over the weekend, some possible lyrics to her track "I Wanna Go" also hit the Web. On the song, she reportedly sings, "Lately I've been stuck imagining/ What I wanna do and what I really think/ Time to blow out, be a little inappropriate/ 'Cause I know that everybody's thinking it/ When the light's out/ Shame on me, to need to release uncontrollably."
Those weren't the only lyrics hitting the Internet. The lyrics to her song "Inside Out" also dropped on Sunday. On the sexy breakup track, Spears sings, "Said you're gonna be here in two minutes/ Sitting in the mirror getting ready/ Gotta look my best if I wanna break up/ Gotta look my best if I wanna break up/ I can hear you knocking at the back door/ And I know exactly what you're here for/ Trying to say goodbye but I'm not that ready/ Trying to say goodbye but I'm not that ready."
While the couple seems to be on the verge of a breakup, there's apparently still some sexual tension. "You ... touch me and it's turning me on/ I'm telling you, let's just do it all and get down/ So come on/ Won't you give me something to remember?/ Baby shut your mouth and turn me inside out/ Even though we thought we'd last forever/ You got what I want right now."

Britney Spears is fine with the numerous comparisons that have been made between her and Madonna over the course of her career. After all, she tried to mold herself after the star.
When asked who she tried to emulate when she first started out, Spears answered, "Madonna. No question. She is an amazing entertainer. Besides Madonna, I also admire Sarah Jessica Parker's career and her shoe collection," the singer told Out magazine. (Madonna is also set to have her own Out cover this month when both covers drop on March 29.)
She had equally kind words for her pop contemporaries. What does she think of Lady Gaga? "Unique." What about former pop rival Christina Aguilera? "Truly talented."
Over the course of her career, Spears has recorded a number of songs ranging from the awesome ("Toxic," "Slave 4 U") to the more forgettable ("Email My Heart"), but she has no regrets. "All of my songs are f---ing amazing," she told the magazine.
Spears displayed that same swagger when talking about her latest release. "I think Femme Fatale is my most upbeat and mature album yet. I collaborated with will.i.am. I am a huge fan of Black Eyed Peas, and I have always wanted to work with him. I also worked with a new up-and-coming artist from the L.A. area named Sabi. She raps on a song I love called '(Drop Dead) Beautiful.' "
While she loves all her own tracks, there's one recent radio smash that Spears wishes she had jumped on. Spears said that she would have loved to record Eminem and Rihanna's "Love the Way You Lie."
The magazine also delved a bit further into the singer's personal life. When asked how she would feel if one of her sons turned out to be gay, she replied, "I love my boys no matter what." And when asked if the singer ever crushed on a female celebrity, she responded, "I only have eyes for men."
Spears noted that everyone should have the right to marry, including gay people. "I think everyone should be treated equally."
Femme Fatale's release is one of Britney's major milestones for 2011. Another is the singer's 30th birthday, which she doesn't seem very worried about. "I'm excited to be out of my 20s," she said, before sharing that she's not against plastic surgery. "When it's time to pull and tuck, I'm sure I will consider it."
